In reply to Andy Ludu.

The key thrust of the analogy: what is the everyday notion of bringing something into existence for measurement purposes then removing it later? Epsilon and deltas? How about photoshopping a camera’s reflection out of its own picture.
You may not enjoy the example, that’s fine, but it’s more familiar than epsilon and delta to most.

I am sorry but this whole procedure of going around and around with camera nonsense to show that the derivative of x^2 is 2x is the biggest nonsense I have ever seen in math education. Why do we need extra and super-extra silly artificial explanations instead of simply calculating (f(x+epsilon) -f(x))/ epsilon and apply limit epsilon towards zero. What scares me is not this nonsense, it is a free country, but how many people love this thing. This is really scary.

Is there an app for that? :) I too was lost on the analogy, can you give an example of this applied to something tangible? Thanks, I love your 'simplified' ways to make me understand math.
