Also, they're commutative. Threrefore, I think the perfect visualization would start with both numbers lying on the line, and them flipping ans spinning and tugging at each other until they settle into the new configuration. I'm sure you know how to visualize the commutativity of multiplication of positive integers using rectangles and rotation. That's the kind of stuff that I have in mind.
